Disappointing exoticism

I saw this at the Arab Film Festival in Amman, and I was disappointed. This film is a good idea, but it remained only that, offering absolutely nothing beyond its synopsis. I waited and waited, but there was no depth, no development, no real portrayal of any one character. You expect to get to know Habib, Samir or the ram, to be invited beyond the surface of an outsider's view, to feel real empathy, but the filmmaker is so fascinated by the mere idea of training rams and by these people's lives that he deems it enough to simply roam around them and their animals without offering anything truly human, anything in the way of a sensible story. The result was exoticism. Wow, even boys who train rams have facebook and smart-phones- we get it. When Bach's Agnus Dei started playing, so incredibly out of context, I thought to myself, this was probably why this whole film was made- a sacrificed ram, Bach's Lamb of God. A seemingly brilliant idea, but again, ideas alone don't make films. I realize that there are many kinds of movies, but even non-traditional, non-story plots need real substance and some kind of plan. There are worlds between greatness and faking greatness, and this film attempts the latter. As a viewer, I was offended.

Ram fighting should be in the Olympics

At first I wasn't sure if this was acted or it was real life. It took me 15 minutes to realise it was real . It's basically about a group of Algerians who use Rams for trading and fighting .

I've never see Ram fighting before and although undoubtedly cruel is better than watching Basketball or America Football!

Not a great deal happens apart from the trading , fighting and a slaughter , which will piss off the Vegans hopefully .

I learned a little about Algeria and how poor the country is but it's not a film that has any redeeming features
