Built on archive footage - much of it previously unseen - this film reveals one of the most unexpected legacies of the First World War -- popular participation in sports, once the realm of the elite. For four years, sport represented a welcome respite from the killing fields of Europe.

Sport was NEVER the "realm of the elite". Sports have been for all people. Like today, different sports are played by different social classes. Hockey is one of the most expensive sports excluding most from playing (try pricing out the equipment) yet is followed by so many. Soccer the cheapest as all you need is a ball.
