Quite the disappointment

Some of the comedy felt forced, and the jokes lacked inspiration. Perhaps it's partly my fault, i hadn't watched the prequels in years, but remembered them fondly for their fun and humor, which had me eagerly anticipating the third installment. However, my excitement quickly turned into massive disappointment. It seemed like an unnecessary addition, and I don't think many people were clamoring for a third movie in the first place. The gaps between the movies were quite extensive: 2002-2016-2023.

The dialogue was mainly a barrage of "no's," and the humor relied heavily on recurring jokes that didn't land for me. I was anticipating more comedy, but it felt like a straightforward road trip instead. Moreover, it came across as incredibly trite, clichéd, and lacking inspiration, especially because many jokes, like the whole "that's a Greek word or invention" trope, were recycled from the first two movies and felt overused at this point.

The only character I genuinely liked was the mayor, and she strongly reminded me of Villanelle from "Killing Eve." It felt like such a waste of a character; she deserved to be in a better movie. Now, I don't mean to imply that the she's on par with this character, she isn't; but in a way, it's a reversal of what Quentin Tarantino once said about Col. Hans Landa. He wanted to cancel the movie "Inglorious Basterds" because none of the auditioning actors were worthy of Landa's character. Instead, I wish this movie had been canceled because it wasn't worthy of Mayor Victory's character. I struggled to form any attachment to the other characters, which felt like a missed opportunity, especially considering the subplot involving the dad's urn, which demanded a stronger emotional connection.

It was a rather uninteresting and uninspired movie. Felt basic and AI-generated. There wasn't anything particularly good or captivating about it, nothing to write home about. Admittedly, my expectations were too high, but was really disappointing.

The third time is not a charm

I loved the first Greek Wedding movie. It was charming and poignant and had universal. "annoying family" appeal. The second movie was not nearly as good, though it was interesting to see what happened and it was nice to revisit the charming characters. That latter attribute is the only good part on the third installment.

Seeing the characters is pleasant. The story is contrived and much of the dialogue is silly. The conflicts all seem forced and fake. Some of the gags are humorous. Andrea Martin is still great. Many of the shots are poorly conceived. The beauty of the Greek isles is nice to see. But it feels a little like BFGW1 crossed with her Greek tour leader comedy "My Life in Ruins", but both of those movies are better.

I like Nia Vardolos.. I just didn't like this. Movie much.

A Reminder That Time With Our Loved Ones Is Valuable, And We Should Make The Most Of It.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is the latest of the hilarious trilogy -- this time with more emotion and nostalgia added to its humor. Fans of the franchise will love watching their favorite Greek family back for another wedding and, this time it's set in Greece! I was amazed by the cinematography, the characters and, of course, the jokes!

The movie follows the Portokalos family as they vacation to their recently deceased father's (Michael Constantine) hometown in Greece for a family reunion, coordinated by their cousin and self-appointed mayor Victory (Melina Kotselou). In Greece, Toula (Nia Vardalos) attempts to fulfill her father's death wish -- to deliver his old journal to his childhood friends (Ektoras Kaloudis, Menelaos Ntaflos, Spyros Kasfiks). However, the discovery of even more new extended family members leads to yet another Greek wedding.

Throughout the film, the landscapes are beautifully captured, showing some very beautiful pictures of rural Greece. We see lush green forests and rolling hills, crystal-clear rivers and cloudless blue skies. Closer to the village, we see a long winding road, cobblestone streets, secret passageways and older, worn buildings that have a rustic charm to them. Several times, we see sunny beaches with white sand. This makes it feel more like a three-dimensional experience than a movie. While fans will miss Grandpa Gus and his amusing ability to connect every word to its Greek root, they will enjoy meeting newer characters such as Toula's daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris). Also, many familiar characters have returned, including Aunt Voula (Andrea Martin), who thinks she's in charge of everyone else, and Toula's cousin Nick (Louis Mandylor). The soundtrack features upbeat Greek songs, such as the wedding dance. But my favorite part of the movie is all the jokes. Every morning, the family is awakened by a rooster. Cousin Nick hilariously tries to shave his face at the breakfast table. There is one scene where a sheep randomly enters the house before most people are up. An aunt is startled by the sheep, which is right next to her when she wakens, and exclaims that she thought her husband had come back from the dead.

This film reminds us that time with our loved ones is valuable, and we should make the most of it. We only get to live once, so we should live each day to the fullest and appreciate our cherished people every day.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 gets 4.5 out of 5 stars and I recommend it for ages 8 to 18, plus adults. The releases in theaters September 8, 2023. By Ella S., KIDS FIRST!
